JATRAN operates 10 Fixed Routes, Monday thru Friday from 5:00 a.m. till 7:45 p.m. and on Saturdays from 5:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m.
HandiLift Forms:
If you are interested in applying for HandiLift Service, you are required to complete an Eligibility Certification Form and a Medical Verification of Disability Form.Also the Applicant Guideline provides instructions on how to complete and where to submit the forms.These forms and applicant guidelines are accessible by clicking on the links above for a printable copy.Please contact the HandiLift Coordinator if you have any questions about completing the forms or obtaining a copy at 601-948-5438.
JATRAN has adopted the following appeal procedures as the mechanism for resolving complaints relative to Handilift service, policies, and procedures.
HANDILIFT SERVICE
HandiLift Service provides safe and efficient transportation to persons with disabilities who are ADA paratransit eligible. Service is provided within the city limits of Jackson, extending to a ¾ mile radius around JATRAN’s Fixed Routes.

Reservation – 5 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Fares
One-way trip $2.00–offered to certified passengers with exception of personal care attendants traveling with certified passengers. Exact fare is required upon pick-up.
20-Ride Coupon Booklet $40.00–offered to certified passengers and constitutes twenty one-way rides. Passes can be obtained from JATRAN Administration Office or HandiLift Operators.
HandiLift Policy stipulates that no qualified person shall solely by reason of his or her disability be excluded from participation in or denied the benefits of JATRAN and otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity undertaken by JATRAN that receives or benefit from federal financial assistance.
Who’s Eligible?
To receive HandiLift Service, a person must be certified under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), which defines paratransit eligibility.
Applicants must request a HandiLift ADA Paratransit Eligibility Certification Application from JATRAN’s HandiLift Department.
Applicants will be notified by JATRAN’s HandiLift Department of his or her certification status. Once eligibility is established, the applicant can utilize the HandiLift Service immediately.
Helpful Tips
Service Animals – Any animal used as a service animal by persons with disabilities are permitted to ride on the bus.
Seat and Lap Belts – On Fixed and HandiLift buses, passengers are not required to use seat or lap belts.
JATRAN will implement bus route and service adjustments effective Monday, October 3, 2011.In addition, JATRAN will offer FREE transit services on our HandiLift and Fixed Routes October 3rd thru October 7th.For more details on these adjustments, visit our webpage at www.jacksonms.gov or call our Constituent Services office at 601-960-1084.

Fixed Bus Routes - All Route schedules can be viewed online or printed by clicking on the link "map" below.
Bus Stops - Bus Stops are marked with JATRAN green and yellow bus stop signage conveniently located along routes throughout Jackson. Please use these designated stop locations to wait for arriving buses. Buses also stop at most street corners, assuming there are no safety hazards.
Destination Signs: The sign on the outside at the top of the bus is where the destination route name is located. Before boarding the bus, check the destination sign to ensure you are on the correct bus. If you have any questions, the bus driver will assist you.

Transfer Points Transfers are issued to provide service between two points not served by a single route. Please ask the operator for a transfer when you board the bus. Transfers cannot be used for a return trip and are only issued to customers who pay a fare or board with a JATRAN Pass. Transfers are FREE and valid for the next bus to your destination at locations where routes intersect.

Helpful Hints
Bus operators make stop announcements and provide verbal assistance at multi-route stops.
JATRAN requires exact fare; the operators do not carry change.
Deposit your fare directly into the fare box. The operators are not allowed to handle change.
Eating, drinking, smoking, and playing music are prohibited on the bus.
Please allow others to exit before boarding the bus.
Do not distract the operator.
JATRAN maintains a lost and found service to assist with prompt return of lost items. Call 601-948-3840 to report lost items.
On Fixed Routes and Handilift buses, passengers are not required to use seat or lap belts.

Trolley Service – JATRAN no longer provides Trolley Service.
Advertise with JATRAN Advertising with JATRAN offers daily extensive exposure, target market capabilities, and high levels of reach and frequency to the public. JATRAN has several options of advertising available on their Fixed Route System including interior, exterior and bus wraps. Advertising is also available on benches and shelters located throughout the City.
JATRAN serves the corporate limits of Jackson and has a total of 33 vehicles, which offer the visibility of a moving billboard throughout the City. Buses travel in residential areas, shopping destinations, and business districts and log over one million fleet miles annually. The annual ridership is 520,000 passenger trips.
